About The Shikoku Henro World Heritage Inscription Council

Purpose

Coexisting in harmony with the local region for over a thousand years, the Shikoku Henro Pilgrimage is a representative example of Japanese cultural heritage. To ensure that this living culture is passed down to future generations, it is necessary to preserve the property while heightening awareness of its cultural value both domestically and abroad. In order to coordinate and maximize the efforts of numerous groups that have been working to preserve and transmit the culture of the Shikoku Henro Pilgrimage, Shikoku has united under the umbrella of one organization which is working towards achieving World Heritage status.
